Missouri Veterans Home Team Member Named Missouri Health Care Association Nurse of the Year

JEFFERSON CITY – Tina Hlavaty, Director of Nursing Services at Missouri Veterans Home – St. James, has been named the 2026 Missouri Health Care Association (MHCA) Nurse of the Year. Her peers nominated her in recognition of her dedication to her team and the compassionate care she provides Veterans who reside in the Home. Known for her attention to detail and ability to build relationships, Hlavaty works to guide the next generation toward success.
“For over 20 years, we have been extremely fortunate to have Tina on our team,” said Missouri Veterans Commission Executive Director Paul Kirchhoff. “She is a true leader as she embodies the core values of the Commission by putting service before self.”
Hlavaty began her career with the Missouri Veterans Home – St. James in 2006 as a Unit Manager. Throughout her career, she has instilled a sense of purpose, pride, and compassion into everyone she has encountered. From speaking with family members and escorting Veterans to the dining hall to encouraging nurses to advance their careers, Hlavaty continues to demonstrate true leadership in providing excellence in all she does.
Established in 1949, MHCA is Missouri's largest long-term care trade association, representing a diverse, well-rounded membership. MHCA awarded two additional members of the Missouri Veterans Commission with district titles, when the awards were announced this week.

Nurse of the Year
District 3: Justin Newsome, Missouri Veterans Home – St. Louis
